Pros and Cons

A balance ball chair brings a whole new perspective on what a regular stability ball has to offer. In effect, what it is is a regular balance ball that sits securely into the base of an office chair. So you are sitting on the ball whilst working. This provides lots of benefits but also the odd drawback too, so here are some of the more common pros and cons of what the balance ball chair offers.

First the Pros:

Engage Your Abs – When sitting on a balance ball, you are constantly engaging your abdominal muscles where you wouldn’t normally do sitting on a regular chair. You can increase your core strength quite easily by doing this. The great thing is, you probably don’t even realize you are doing it (until you wake up next day!).

Better Posture – As described above, if you have a strong core then you will have more protection of your lower back and will naturally have better posture too. Reports suggest that lower back pain has been eliminated simply with the use of a stability ball chair.

Now the Cons:

Actually, there really aren’t many cons to using a balance ball chair. The only real ones we have heard of are these;

Lack of Support in Upper Body – Some of the chairs don’t have arm rests or back rests, so can lead to not supporting the upper body. But you can get around this by buying a balance chair with arms and you can eliminate this con straight away.

Rolling Away – Not all chairs have wheels which can be locked. So if using on a wooden or uneven floor, the chairs can move around. You can eliminate this by buying a chair that has lockable wheels, most of the more popular ones have these.

Balance ball pros and consSo that’s it, these are the most common balance ball chair pros and cons we have come across. We hope this helps you to choose to buy one of these great chairs that could make a big difference to your health.
